Rules and Regulation for Students

The students are advised to keep themselves aware of the following student’s rules and regulations. Ignorance of rules shall not be an excuse for violation.

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Each student shall conduct herself/ himself, both within and outside the campus of the Sri Lalithambigai Medical College and Hospital in a manner befitting a student of a prestigious university, M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute.
  • Each student shall show due respect and courtesy to the Faculty, Administrators, Non-teaching staffs, patients, visitors, residents of the institute and also good behavior to fellow students.

PUNCTUALITY

  • Students are expected to be seated in lecture hall/ Practical hall, 10 minutes before the commencement of the lecture / practical’s. Late comers will not be permitted to enter the class.
  • Late arrival and early departure at or from a class are recorded as absence from the class.
  • Students are not allowed to leave the institute during working hours without the written permission of the Dean/ Principal.

ANTI-RAGGING

On Directions of National Medical Commission (NMC), published in the Official Gazette notification (G.O) Dt:18th November, 2021  has ordered strict implementation  & regulations for Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in medical college.

  • Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the National Medical Commission (Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institutions) Regulations, 2021, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging.
  • Actions to be taken against students for indulging and abetting in ragging by institutional Anti-Ragging Committee.

DRESS CODE

All students are expected to wear the prescribed uniform with shoes on all working days. Students are not allowed to wear T-shirts, banyans, sleeveless or shorts for classes other than the prescribed dress code.

  • Boys – Hair must be neatly cut and combed. Beard must be clean shaved.
  • Girls– Hair has to be tied up neatly and not left loose.
  • Both boys and girls should wear clean white aprons with the college emblem in the campus premises. To respect the sanctity of profession please do not wear these aprons outside the college campus.

IDENTITY CARD

  • All students are expected to wear the identity cards provided at all times.
  • Students should report loss of Identity Card in writing to the student’s Administrative officer within 24 hours explaining the circumstances under which it was lost.

BEHAVIOUR

  • Students are not allowed to shout or make loud noise between the class hours or leisure time while they are in the campus.
  • Students are prohibited from standing in person or in groups on the corridor.
  • Unnecessarily initiating a conversation with stranger is to be avoided.
  • Forming any informal group for violation is punishable.
  • Usage of mobile phones during lecture/ practical’s is strictly prohibited. If found in similar act, the mobile will be confiscated and will not be returned.
  • Smoking, alcohol consumption, drug abuse and any kind of misbehaviour or any kind of unlawful activity within the campus is prohibited and will be duly addressed to the parents besides taking strict disciplinary action as per college rules and regulations.

COUNSELLING (MENTOR- MENTEE SYSTEM)

  • A student who faces academic or other problems can approach their mentors for redressal of their grievances.

ATTENDANCE

  • Every student should have a minimum of 75% attendance to be eligible to take the University Examination
  • Students who are absent on medical ground should produce a valid medical certificate along with the Requisition Letter for leave from Parents.
  • Leave taken under medical ground cannot be taken in to account for attendance.
  • The attendance of the each student shall be totalled at the end of every Internal Assessment and displayed in department notice board and the same will be intimated to the Parent/Guardians.

The student should strictly obey the rules and regulations given above. Violation of any of the rules by the students shall be dealt with disciplinary action. Parents are advised to approach the Dean/ Principal, Faculty Members regularly to know the progress of their wards. It will be the duty of the parent/guardian to ensure that their wards attend classes regularly and avoid recurrence of low attendance by them. Parents if summoned to discuss about their wards should report to the college without fail immediately as and when required.
