Microbiology is the study of microorganism. It focuses on a large and diverse group of microscopic organisms.

The department of microbiology, Sri Lalithambigai medical college and hospitals has state of the art infrastructure which include

• Demonstration rooms – and student’s laboratory for teaching students using adequate microscope.
• Department library – the department library has numerous looks and latest journals for the use of the staff as well as students.
• Clinical microscopes laboratory equipped with modern microscopes and other instruments like ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) for study of microorganisms and culture characteristics of bacteria and fungi serology laboratory in central lab is equipped with modern machines that are used in diagnosis of infectious diseases like Dengue, Leptospirosis, Syphilis, HIV &Hepatitis.

Our department also houses a BSL-2 viral service Laboratory for COVID-19 RTPCR testing is accredited by National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration laboratories (NABL)

The teaching methods will be student centric based on competency based medical education provided by national medical council (NMC).
