Community medicine is the branch of medicine, which deals with the health care of the community through health promotion, disease prevention and health protection through Primary health care approach.
The department aims at training undergraduate students in disease control, biostatistics, epidemiology, behavioral change communication, health care system, management skills and health policies including Public Health Act.
These objectives will be achieved through lectures, tutorials, seminars, symposiums, demonstrations and hands on experience in the field activities. The teaching methods will be learner centered, with specific learning objectives for each topic delivered to the students based on the Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) provided by the National Medical Council (NMC)
The Department empowers the students to acquire leadership qualities in the health sector, to become public health specialists in planning, implementation and evaluation of disease control programmes by applying the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics.
